The habit of cleaning the tartar to the dentist not only have an impact on dental health, but also will reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.
According to the explanation of cardiology experts, tartar cleaning action will reduce the growth of bacteria that cause inflammation and trigger heart disease or stroke.
“One of the tips to prevent heart disease and stroke are routinely clean the tartar,” said Dr.Emily (Zu-Yin) Chen, a cardiologist from the Veterans General Hospital, Taipei.
Zu-Yin do research in Taiwan by following the 100,000 people who have no history of hereditary heart disease or stroke over 7 years. The result is known, those trips to the doctor to clean tartar twice a year to have 24 percent lower risk for heart attack and 13 percent lower risk of stroke, compared with people who never clean the tartar.
However, in this study are not taken into account risk factors for heart disease and stroke such as weight, smoking habits, and race.
Meanwhile, a study conducted in Sweden found differences in the type of gum disease can be used to predict risk of heart disease and stroke.
The researchers found the least number of teeth and the high level of dental infection are at increased risk of heart disease. Besides the more frequently experienced bleeding gums due to gum disease will cause a high risk of stroke.
